With her luck, she'd be connected to someone like Jarod and it would be a complete fucking pain in the ass that she didn't want. Quickly, Parker started to take three steps away from him, and then she remembered the invisible leash that was somehow connected to her brain.]

[And he began to head back toward the stairs, on his way to the CES, expecting her to move alongside him.]

[Parker tended to walk quickly, and she was working on matching her pace to his. Oh god this was humiliating. It made her want to punch something. There had been a pack of cigarettes in the pocket of her gray suit, and she quickly lit one, not giving a fuck if he didn't want her to smoke. When they couldn't go more than five feet from one another, it didn't matter.]

[John looked over at her cigarette and the lighter. He'd never seen something like that before and when he pulled out his own shitty cigarettes and his matchbook, he looked decidedly puzzled.]

Yeah, one of those new inventions. Like shampoo. It's called a lighter.
