(no subject)

Barge coma is just another way for the man in charge to fuck with us.

[Private to Parker's friends (especially the Tough Ass Women club.)
So did I miss anything important while I was dead to the world?

[Private to Parker.]
You. Me. Talking. I've got something for you.

[Private to Angelica]
Let's play with some fucking swords.

[Private to Laura]
A drink?

Fortunately, I would not know.

The gym. More room to move, and the floor is flat.

Three sounds wonderful. I shall see you there.

[Angelica sat waiting in the gym for Parker to arrive, dressed in a pair of breeches and resting a sheathed sword in her lap. She hadn't made much of an effort to be social lately - Mal worried her, especially with the things the last flood had done to her, and she was simply in no mood for frivolity in between time spent fretting.

Except that Parker had woken up from one of those terrible Barge-comas and had made her an irresistible offer. She just couldn't turn something like that down.]

[Angelica heard Parker's boots on the gym floor before actually spying her approaching. She climbed to her feet, swinging the leather strap used to hold the scabbard over her shoulder, and nodded a hello.] Afternoon, madam. Good to see you up and about once again. [She had the faintest hint of a smirk on her face. What good was falling asleep for days and days on end if your friends couldn't tease you for it later?]

Have you done this before? I confess, I am not terribly proficient with a sword myself.

[Angelica made a face as Parker easily unsheathed her sword.] Ah, fencing. Try to go easy on me, lest you cut me to ribbons. My tutor was one-handed and fought not for sport.

[She grinned just a touch, then rolled up her sleeves before producing her own weapon. She held it aloft, inspecting it for a moment, then motioned for Parker to join her in the centre of the room.] You've not missed very much. Are you at least well-rested?

Oh, I had not known he'd found you. I can only imagine - such a thing would frighten the living daylights out of me. [Angelica shuddered just a bit at the thought. Sexby once found her when she had actually died - a case of the plague, and she had gone to sleep only to cough herself to death. At least Paddy had been somewhat comforted by the fact that Parker hadn't actually died.]

And Beardy...Beardy is handling life well. [She laughed and positioned herself to duel with the sword in hand, waiting for Parker to do the same.] He has a new inmate and she keeps him very busy indeed. She is exceedingly violent - very different from Judas.

Aye, he is, madam. [Angelica didn't actually know the modern fencing terms - swordsmanship was a bit different in the 17th century, and the duels were a lot less formal. She assumed that engarde was some sort of signal to begin and so she raised her arm to carefully lunge at Parker. She was just a touch intimidated by the woman's formal stance, but decided it was best to remain casual.

And there was really no need to cease their banter either while they fought.]

Sexby can reason with the very best of men, but he is no pacifist. Not like Judas. I think the change of pace is good for him.

[Angelica was better at parrying herself, and moved to one side before attempting to lunge again at Parker.] Aye, his patience often would astonish me. He has a bit of a temper regarding certain things, and Judas certainly knew what those were and was not afraid to use them against him.

[She frowned in spite of herself. Judas and his words still troubled her, and though she had washed her hands of him, Angelica hated the thought of speaking ill of him. And as it was, Parker was a friend of his.]

Aye, he most certainly will not. [Though her voice didn't sound terribly convinced. Concentrating on Parker's movements and strikes meant that Angelica was less able to hide her real feelings.

Realising she had somewhat given away her very secretive feelings on the matter, Angelica added quickly,] He knows of his responsibilities as a warden. He can handle himself.

[Angelica stepped off to the side, parrying a little half-heartedly before holding up her hand as a single to stop. She sighed, really not wanting to go into this at all, especially with Parker, but hating the thought of lying as well.]

Judas made a silly mistake when Sexby was away, that is all. Honestly, tis no matter.

[She sighed, but there was a bit of a laugh to it.] Because I seem to be dragging my feet on the subject?

[Angelica shrugged and slipped the sword back into its scabbard, finding herself a seat on a nearby bench.] I simply do not know what I should think anymore, madam. I feel as though I am a horrible person, for I may have washed my hands of our mutual friend for good.

[Oh, that question. Angelica groaned slightly, thinking for the briefest of brief moments that perhaps she could make a run for it instead of answering. Instead she shrugged her shoulders, unlatching the strap used to hold the scabbard and setting the sword down beside her.]

Judas reacted quite poorly when Sexby left the Barge, and spoke in anger and said certain things that were...disturbing, though not genuine, as Judas is not a violent man. Still, the man he spoke with was worried enough to bring it to my attention, and I thought to speak to Judas to clear the air, as it were. Sadly, the conversation did not go very well.

[Angelica stared off at a spot in the wall across from her, her expression somewhat blank.] He can be so spiteful and horrid at times, and I think...I think it best if I stop speaking to him, before I do more damage to him and myself.

[There was something about this conversation that made her so very uncomfortable. Even when speaking to Martha about this matter she had been careful, cautious, though her friend had been worried and seen for herself the conversation with Snape. Only with Sexby she had been candid about her feelings on the subject, and it had been appropriate then because he was her husband and the former warden of the man.

Angelica looked around them, and once reassured that no one was about to listen she decided it was safe to speak.] I must say this before I tell you - he has said many things over the past year, Parker, and I had forgiven him for each and every one. I care very much for him. He can be kind and sweet and thoughtful, and was there for me as much as I was there for him. But I....

[She frowned.] In his anger he said things about Sexby not deserving his family. I thought he should feel some remorse for it, for it was a horrid thing to say about a man one professes to admire. He felt none. I also wished to warn him about his temper, as now he is a warden, and should be aware of what he might say to strangers in anger, but I worry that he will not. [Angelica rolled down her sleeves, setting her face into a stern expression.] He is graduated, by God. He is.

[A shrug,] But then I wonder if I was more apt to forgive him because he was Sexby's charge and I feared ruining Sexby's work, or if I was truly charmed by Judas when he has his moments of thoughtfulness.
